Who’s Who: Sharron Ellis

Sharron Ellis, I mean what else do I need to say.  She is a walking one liner full of great things to say such as “I hate it when they are limp.”  Of course she was referring to the chalk bags at the gym, but coming from her it had multiple meanings.  Sharron is hands down one of the most positive, glass is half full people you will ever meet.   I love having her in class as she keeps me on my toes.  At the end of the day we all love Sharron for her motivation, passion, hard work, and last but of course not least, her humor!  Thank you Sharron for sharing these questions and answers, but most of all thank you for being you!!!

How were you introduced to NorCal Strength and Conditioning?

My son Anthony was doing CrossFit in the Bay Area and was raving about it. Meanwhile, I was 90 pounds over weight and looking to find a gym experience that I would stick with. Trying to motivate myself to do fitness wasn’t working! I was eating healthy or what I had been led to believe was healthy: whole grains, fruit, veggies, and lean meats. (Menopause didn’t help.) It was Ana (now my daughter-in-law) that suggested NorCal Strength and Conditioning. Both Ana and I started the On Ramp class last June coached by you (Shawn) and Natalie. What a great experience that has transformed me mentally and physically. So far I have lost 40 pounds and have loved every minute of it.

Favorite WOD/Lift?

Let me tell you what I don’t like! I don’t like the Bear Crawl and for the life of me I can’t do it backwards. Jumping on the box….it’s a mental glitch I am learning to overcome. Everything else I love. I really like “laundry lists”.

I have always wanted……

I have always wanted to travel. Getting in shape and losing weight is building my confidence and desire to get out there, live, and make it happen.

One word people use to describe me: Passionate!

Outside of the gym I like to: Coming to the gym three days a week has become my number one priority, my job. After almost 40 years of putting my family first, I am making the time for me. I really admire the young mothers who have figured it out and are balancing the needs of their family with time for themselves. I am also incorporating Yoga (2 nights a week) with the gym. Yoga really fits nicely with what I am doing at the gym. In between I am landscaping, playing with my dogs, farming, and cleaning up my neglected nursery.

Three things you would ALWAYS find in my fridge: Eggs, salad material, seasonal fruit, and left overs….but to accommodate my Italian husband who can’t give up little things you would find a stick of salami, provolone cheese and 1% milk to go with a whole grain cereal.

Something nobody knows about me or would be surprised to know about me:

That there is a Diva waiting to get out of me. That I have unclean thoughts when I look at some of these young men’s hard bodies……  Seriously, I am serious!

Favorite physical activity outside of NorCal Strength and Conditioning: Landscaping is very physical. I love to hike and fly fish. Losing weight and building strength has increased the enjoyment in these activities.

Favorite place to eat in Chico: My husband and I have never been big on eating out. But, with Ana we love Sierra Nevada. The salad with chicken, pecans and blue cheese….Yum, and maybe a small beer! Also we like Sin of Cortez!

Song that gets me pumped up for a workout:

I love all music, but I am an old Rocker so Springsteen, Tom Petty, Lady Gaga, Adele, even some great blue grass pumps me up.

Last thing I ate: 2 scrambled eggs with a couple slices of avocado and cherry tomatoes from my garden.

Proudest accomplishment: Raising my two sons. They are good responsible people. I would love them even if they weren’t mine.

6 month goal: To get to my ideal weight, beat Mark S. on the plank hold, jump on the medium box and make it to the top of the rope.

If you could invite ANYBODY (currently alive or not) over for dinner, who would you invite? Why?

Michele Obama, Jamie Oliver, Dr. Oz and Dr. Weil. I would have Robb and Nicki so they could elaborate on Paleo. Sarah and Chrissy so they could help cook. Oh, and you (Shawn) and Kayden for the entertainment. I am committed to helping change how we eat and saving our ground water.

Favorite workout attire:

Tee shirt and sweat pants. Goal: sleeveless top and lululemons! :-)
