Most of you know Richard H. from the gym, but for those that don’t PLEASE take a few moments to read over this Q&A.  Rich somehow “forgets” to mention  that he has lost over 50 pounds and has recently tested into Level 1, which he passed with flying colors.  Rich is a poster child for NorCal and we love having him as part of our family!  I know Rich has just scratched the surface of his true potential in the gym, but with his positive attitude and drive he will reach all his goals listed below and then some.   Great job Rich we are all super proud of you and happy to call you our friend!   Thanks for sharing with us Rich!

1. How were you introduced to NorCal Strength and Conditioning?
I started seeing John Fragoso for some leg issues I was having from running. One day he told me instead of running so much I should check out NorCal Strength & Conditioning. I went down after I left his office and I haven’t looked back since.

2. Favorite workout/lift:
As crazy as it may sound I like any workout with burpees in it.  When I first started I really disliked dead lifts because I couldn’t get the form down but now I do and it is one of my favorite lifts.

3. I have always wanted…: 
I have always wanted to be able to do 3 sets of 10 strict pull ups. Not sure why exactly, except that I figure anyone who can do that must be in pretty great shape.

4. One word people use to describe me:

5. Outside of the gym I like to:
Take my wiener dog, Buddy, for hikes, hang out with friends and enjoy time with my wife.

6. Three things you would ALWAYS find in my fridge:
Hard boiled eggs, coconut water, and lots of veggies. I would have said liquor but I don’t keep that in the fridge. 😉

7. Something nobody knows about me or would be surprised to know about me:
I smoked cigarettes for over 5 years, but thankfully I decided to quit and haven’t picked one up for more than 5 years now. Also before I started this gym I couldn’t do a single pull up but now I can do 8 in a row. Woho!!

8. Favorite physical activity outside of NorCal Strength and Conditioning:
Bowling and/or Golfing

9. Favorite place to eat in Chico:
For breakfast it would have to be Scrambles and for lunch/dinner it would be Casa Ramos.

10. Song that gets me pumped up for a workout:
The Black Eyed Peas song “I’ve Got a Feeling”. We played it during the reception at our wedding and it got the dance floor hoppin!

11. The last thing you ate:
Everyday Paleo Pizza from Sarah Fragoso’s first book Everyday Paleo. It’s oh so good!!

12. Proudest accomplishment:
Getting married to my beautiful wife Jill Hawkins! :-)

13. Six Month goal:
Deadlift 400lbs, 3 sets of 10 strict pull ups and be able to do a muscle up.

14. If you could invite ANYBODY (currently alive or not) over for dinner, who would you invite? Why?
It’s hard to think of just one but I’ve always wanted to hang out with Dave Matthews. Not only am I a big fan of his music but from his lyrics he seems like he has a lot of interesting views and would be fun to have a couple of cocktails with and discuss life.

15. Favorite work out attire:
Basketball shorts, crossfit shoes and any comfortable athletic shirt.

Lastly I would just like to thank Shawn and Chrissy Gower, along with the other trainers, for welcoming my wife and I into their gym/community! It has completely changed our lives for the better and I look forward to each and every time I get to walk through those doors!
