I recently returned from a 10 day visit with my parents who are living in Taiwan for a year while my Mom teaches English. As I prepared for my trip my Dad warned me to practice eating with chop sticks because forks were rarely available.
Here I had been spending my energy planning appropriate clothes for the weather (a balmy 80 degrees), and trying to cram in the random list of American tidbits that my parents had requested, I hadn’t really thought much about the food! For a person who spends her day talking to clients about appropriate food choices, and scanning weekly food logs--you’d think I’d been at least a little concerned!
I’m not really sure WHAT I was expecting. My parents had mentioned that everyone eats from the street vendors--and that the food is tasty, inexpensive, and fairly healthy. I never pegged myself to be an adventurous eater. I was the kid that picked everything off my food...nor would I ever try new things. So--that said--I am pretty proud of myself for popping all of these Taiwanese treats in my mouth!
Check out a few of my meals!
This is all grilled fish.
Eating Paleo is really pretty easy....here are some roasted sweet potatoes, and hard boiled eggs (soaking in tea)...if you can believe it...this is at 7-11!
And...I even got my exercise...this is my view from my bike seat...smack in the middle of scooters and traffic!

damn… i am an adventurous eater, and i’m not sure i’d take down those eggs… go you! wish our fast food was delicious and nutritious.
Shawn, Tigers LOVE pepper. And so do dinosaurs
Dinosaur egss plus pepper = yum!
how do you know tigers love pepper? I would rather eat bowl those eggs are in then one of those peppered dino eggs.....
I wish I had the courage to actually eat some crazy meals!! I have been trying meals, here in Thailand, and I pretty much know now that it is either curry with chicken, curry with beef, or curry:) I try fish about everyday...and I just cannot do it yet!
Tigers? Was Natalie eating Tigers? What’s up with Tigers? Are those Tiger eggs? Do Tigers lay eggs? They are kinda stripe-y…
Sweet baby bajesus those are some huge eggs. I don’t think it gets any more paleo than that, unless you’re eating them raw! So how do tea eggs taste? I’ve eaten pickled hard boiled eggs, but tea ones; they sound like something I’d be willing to try. What kind of tea do they use? Oolong?
Christina--They actually taste like regular ol’ hard boiled eggs....but warm not cold. The tea just sort of changes the color of the egg white--and leaves a very subtle tea flavor. I am not sure if they use Oolong--which.
Becka--I hope they were chicken eggs. However--I didn’t see one live chicken. But I didn’t see any tigers either...hmm....
Thanks for rubbing it in..... Those meals look so good, we should start selling those eggs at our gym. Are those dinasour eggs?
