Hit the Trail Running (or Walking or Riding)

We all are familiar with the famous saying “hit the trail running” for a metaphor.  Well, this time I’m wanting you to take it in a literal sense.  I’ve written blogs about this in the past, but it never hurts to have a bit of reminder.  The weather the next few weeks is supposed to be WAY cooler than it has been here in Chico.  The first day of summer was just a few days ago…the sun is shining, the birds are chirping and there are trails all over Bidwell Park here in Chico.  Take advantage of all of these things and go get some exercise outside of the gym, soak up some Vitamin D and take a few deep breaths of fresh air.

We all have days off from the gym…go out and explore and get some activity in what nature provides us with.  Head out for a walk, a hike, a jog.  Find a big hill and walk up it (maybe few times for some interval training).  Find some rocks to climb around on and work your balance and coordination.  Then at the end jump in the creek to cool off and be invigorated by the cool water hitting your skin.  Go live life outside of the gym every now and then and remember why we work hard day in and day out…to feel better, to function better and to enjoy life!

After seeing you come in from the creek this morning, I’m going to stick to hikes with my dog in the 100+ degree weather 🙂 Awesome post! Always good to remind people to get out. We train in the gym, so we can do the important things, outside, in our daily lives.
