Fantastic Showing By Our Athletes!

You can find information on the events Here. Over 200 athletes were competing in the event but only the top 5 males and females are allowed to go on and compete in the 2009 CrossFit Games. After a grueling first day four of our folks advanced to day 2. Their rankings were: Adam #27, Vanessa #11, Katie #10 and John #6!! Our other folks posted seriously impressive performances but were not able to make the cut-off for advancement.

Day 2 involved a heinous workout that was a test of everyone’s will and fortitude. John, Adam and Vanessa all finished the heavy deadlift portion of their heats first (a whopping #315 x 22 reps for the men, #185 x 22 reps for the women). Katie struggled with the DL and was a bit behind, but managed to come back and win her heat! The organizers of the event told me Katie’s performance in that workout was one of the most impressive of the day! When the mud finally settled (it rained all weekend long) our athletes placed in the following: Adam-32nd, Vanessa-12th, Katie-10th, John-10th. Unfortunately no one advanced to compete in the CrossFit Games individual competition but we do have a chance to field a solid team for the Affiliate Cup. This is a team event at the CrossFit Games that allows for 6 people per team…I think we will have a solid showing for this event!!

Congrats to our CF brothers and sisters from Redding and Oroville! They had fantastic showings especially 15 year old Skylar from Oroville who managed to make it to day 2! Outstanding job girl!

Thank You’s!

Huge thanks to all the folks who came out and supported the athletes this weekend. Thank you in particular to Tori Zellick of IN Touch Massage of Chico, CA for bringing out her massage table and working on folks between events. Finally, thank you to the folks who put on a very well run and organized event, specifically Mike Minium and Nicole Okumu from CrossFit Oakland. Dozens of other folks were involved with the event in capacities ranging from judging to cooking…thank you all!

Congrats Norcal on some amazing athletic attempts and performances. I know of some of the athletes through the site but only had the truly amazing pleasure of meeting Katie briefly and was totally rooting for her fingers crossed and all when I saw her name on the roster. So, so close for everyone but undoubtedly bad ass effort from everyone. Great coaches make great athletes and I think this is some proof in the gluten free pudding (?) Even if no one won, at least you all know you are probably healthier and sexier  Congrats again. You guys attempted something most never will. Awesome job.

Maybe some posts on what pre/post nutrition was for some of the athletes, especially Katie and those tasty recipes she concocts? Meh?! Meh?! smile

  5. Howdy Norcal,

I have some additional pictures of your athletes from the Qualifiers. They can be found at:

That collection was compiled from the larger group of pictures below.

If you get a chance, let me know if I missed someone from that bigger group, or if I mistakenly put an athlete in your section. Nice work this weekend.

    Sorry about that.
