Chico State Women’s Soccer

We all have lives outside of the gym and as a “family” it’s always good to support one another on every realm of our lives.  Two of our members, Jenna Hunter and Ana Farmer, are coaches for the Chico State Women’s Soccer team.  Their season is underway and from what Jenna and Ana say, they are looking pretty darn good. Tonight at 4:30pm their girls will take on Western...

Good At Some Things, But Great At Nothing.

“Good at some things, but great at nothing”. Back in college I had a mentor who used this phrase to describe undergraduate students who were classified as “generalists” in my major (which I was… and he reminded me, on occasion). What that meant was, instead of picking a specific area of technology to specialize in, we focused on doing a little bit in every area....

Healthy Is The New Healthy

First off, I applaud the new healthy body image campaigns. “Strong is the New Skinny”, “Healthy Is The New Skinny”, etc… It’s all great for the public image of health and wellness. Not to mention a powerfully positive message for SOME women. First, don’t get me wrong, I like seeing positive images of women in the media. I think these campaigns are overall...

Congratulations Shawn Crossley

In Folsom this last weekend, on Sunday, Shawn Crossley took on his second ever triathlon.  Most of you know (or would recognize) Shawn as the guy always hiding out over in the O-lifting corner.  This weekend he went a different route and did great! With an overall time time of 3 hours 22 minutes, he crushed his previous tri time by 32 minutes!  Not too shabby for a guy who just lifts heavy...

Mary Ann Bachus – The Triathlete

Mary Ann Bachus is one of the most humble people at this gym.  She comes in with a smiling face each day ready to have fun and do the best she can do.  I have the privilege of working with her and two other women two times a week for semi-private sessions and I can honestly say that she brings light to my days.  Her optimism, encouragement for others and hard work ethic are contagious. Many of...

New Kids Class

Just wanted to say that the kids session this summer was a blast.  The kids have learned a lot and have mastered many movements while getting stronger at the same time!  One of the biggest accomplishments I would like to point out this session, is that most of the kids were able to climb the rope and all were able to master the foot clamp!  Kids testing will be this Tuesday and Thursday to...

The 2012 CrossFit Games Recap

Let me start this post of by saying that NONE of this would have been possible without the belief, encouraging words and overall support from each and every one of you at the gym!  As I dive further and further into this journey of The CrossFit Games, it gets harder and harder.  Without having “Team LaBaw” behind me, I don’t know what I’d do. I want to give a special...
