Bragging Rights: Accomplishments from 2011

2011 was a really big year for many clients in the gym. I saw things ranging from PRs in standing press, back squat, and dead lift. To things like making the board for a diagnostic workout, getting their first rope climb, or their first pull up! I also saw dramatic changes in body composition with many of the clients from all their hard work and persistence with their training and diet.
This is extremely exciting stuff, and I really really get pumped up everyday I get to come to the gym and see all your progress! But the most rewarding experience for me is I get to live it with you. This community here at Norcal Strength and Conditioning is outstanding and I know many of you did reach your goals last year. I just wanted to give all of you a chance to brag a bit about the things you were able to accomplish last year. Secondly, please share the accomplishments you plan on conquering this year, 2012 baby! Don’t be shy, really brag about yourself or brag about another client.
IT IS EXTREMELY important that you do talk about your accomplishments and share them with people! The brain works in funny ways, and when you get to feel good about yourself or hear people talk about you, you tend to feel great right? Of Course! So, why don’t you share with us por favor!

Matthew Brown has been involved in athletics for most of his life. He developed a huge passion for running at a very young age and ultimately competed for Chico State University in Track and Field for 4 years. After graduation he felt the continued drive to be involved in athletics in some way, and pursued a Masters degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology. While working on his degree he was actively involved in the Chico State Track and Field program coaching both sprint and middle distance athletes in addition to working with them on their strength programs.
His compassion for fitness and people continued to grow even after finishing his degree. He felt there was still room for growth and improvement in his overall knowledge in fitness and found a new home at Norcal Strength and Conditioning. While training at Norcal he found a new way to be competitive in fitness, and that was in the sport of Crossfit. After competing in a few competitions and training at Norcal for a year and a half he decided to pursue an opportunity as a personal trainer. He is excited to be a part of the sense of community and compassion that surrounds NorCal strength and Conditioning.
Before Matthew attained his Masters degree in Kinesiology, he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an option in Management. He has been a supervisor for over 13 years at a large canning and packaging corporation. Working with a variety of people offers many types of challenging situations and Matthew loves to be a part of these experiences.
With his long history of involvement in management and athletics, Matthew has the skills, leadership, and enthusiasm to help motivate any person from any walk of life to achieve their fitness goals.
Meet our other coaches.
I will start off with something I was extremely excited about. I have always been scared of doing handstands, and even my first year at Norcal I avoided doing them like the plague. But, then I soon realized that when you finally did something you were afraid of it made you feel great, and teaches you that being afraid of something is good, and you should challenge fear. So, I worked on them with Natalie and Shawn. I struggled for a while, but soon I was able to hold myself up for a few seconds without the assistance of the wall. A few months ago I held a free handstand for over 10 seconds! I was so stoked! And now I want to be able to to a handstand push up without the assistance of the wall this year! What what!
Lost 27 lbs since starting on-ramp! AND (tied) winner in Holiday Paleo Challenge! Best part is I can finally wear my pre-pregnancy wardrobe again… after four years and two children. The BIGGEST accomplishment is that I’ve carved out time for myself in my busy schedule. I am happier, healthier, look better, and have opened a door to a lifestyle I gave up on years ago. Health and fitness is again a top priority. Thanks NorCal for the support, encouragement, and training! This years goal? To continue!
Katie you have doing so awesome! It’s always a pleasure to see your smiling face in class! Your hard work and dedication have proven why setting goals and sticking to them are important.
Well I have nothing to brag about, but I do love the post and hearing about others accomplishments! Great work everyone! Congrats Katie on all you achievements!
Nothin to brag about Shawn? You’re the best at demoing I’ve ever seen!!! Mastering muscle ups is someting I’m very proud about. Thanks to Jenny and Shawn for helping me get ‘em down.
Ok! You got me….I can do anything…ONCE
As for you nailing muscle ups, well that is something for us to brag about! Good work man!
Adrian, you have been working your ass off in the gym. Your hard work “IS” paying off. And Shawn is a great DEMOer! He doesn’t even have to warm up!
I didn’t die.
My biggest accomplishment is making the decision to join NorCal and I’m so happy I did. After years of (literally) spinning my wheels at ineffective workouts it was somewhat a leap of faith to try something different, but now I will never go back! As far as specific accomplishments, I’m proud of climbing the rope and improving my form and strength on all the movements. I had a lot of bad habits from being mostly self-taught so I am very GRATEFUL to all the trainers for their constant attention to detail, positive feedback and consistency in coaching. Not to mention making every workout FUN.
For 2012 I want what every girl wants: pull-ups and double unders
Hell ya Nicol! Love it! You are rocking it and improving every week! Keep it up!
I too am so happy that I made the decision to better my life by joining NCSC. Thanks Becka for the recommendation!!! My goal when I started was just to be healthy when I turn 40 in 2012. So far, so good. Down 5 inches….not many pounds…but know I have gained muscles I never knew exisited!
I had also wanted to climb the rope by June…but got there last week!! And double unders…and box jumps without fear! I am surprising myself all the time.
Thank you to all the trainers for making these workouts challenging, fun and addicting.
Karen! Keep it up! You are doing great! And yes, they are addicting!
I feel great thanks to working out for the past year and a half at Norcal. It is comforting to be living proof that a body can feel great after age 55. I am mostly thrilled that my butt migrated back to it’s original spot just below my waist (not down by my knees)! Thanks to all trainers for your help with this monumental shift.
Janelle! You are indeed living proof! Keep up all the hard work, you are looking great!
all your hard work will never go in vain…..keep your head trdoaws the sky….great work..
