Not to be “Debbie Downer”, but today at Norcal is a sad sad day for me and I know for many others as well. We will be saying “goodbye”…hopefully more of a “see you later” to a dedicated, supportive, integral part of our family. Michell Remley is moving to Bellingham, WA for her next journey in life with her family. I want to take time to highlight this amazing woman and her outstanding success story in her time here at Norcal Strength and Conditioning.
Not to get too mushy, but this woman has changed me as a coach. She makes me remember each day she comes in why I love my job. In her time here, I have watched Michell blossom from an intimidated, self-conscious lady hiding behind baggy shirts and excuses into a proud, confident woman ready to take on any challenge thrown at her. She has told me that her transformation here has “changed her life, changed her future and given her kids a better mom.” Seriously no words can explain what an outstanding person Michell is…one of a kind that will truly be missed here in Chico!

What was ur start day at NorCal? August 23, 2011
What is your total weight loss? 40lbs!!!
What is your change in pants/dress sizes? I started as a size 20/22 and now I am a 12/14! The last time I wore a size 12, I was 14 years old!!
What is your most memorable moment at NorCal? I know it sounds corny (the only acceptable paleo corn, lol) but everyday brings a memorable moment. I will never forget the Elements class Chrissy taught….when we came in from our run and the entire gym floor was covered with barbells for our deadlift sets, it was so intimidating and impressive. Then there was Sharon’s birthday workout with Shawn, his group shuttle runs were insane, I love the bragging rignts it gave us all. I could go on and on…. There was a Wednesday class where 4 people made it up the rope for the first time, I wasn’t one of them, but to see others accomplish their goals and be able to cheer and congratulate them was so rewarding.
What is your most embarrassing moment at NorCal?? We all have them. Most embarrassing….so many to choose from. Top of the list would be the day my pants fell down trying to sprint 100m. I had to hold them by the waist band to finish the run. You laughed it off like it happens all the time. It was great motivation to go buy proper fitting gym clothes. A tie for second would be face planting my forehead because I closed my eyes during push ups to concentrate on form. The other second place spot goes to the first time I stood up from a post workout stretch and saw a giant sweety impression of my butt on the floor.
What is the most important thing you will take with you out of here? I am taking so much with me from my time at Norcal SC. It has truly been a life changing experience. I walked into Norcal SC a little over 9 months ago hoping to lose some weight… what I gained is a belief in myself and a drive/desire to do more. I am so honored to have gotten to be part of the Norcal SC family. It is a one of a kind place, that I know no other place will compare to.
If you could tell someone that may be contemplating joining NorCal a few words of wisdom or give some encouragement, what would it be? Encouragement for people thinking about joining Norcal SC…. It’s all about the people factor….. the trainers are the key to everything. They truly do all the work….you just show up ready to go. Ok, you do have to work too but it is such rewarding work, with the best return on investment. Stretching, mobilizing, workouts, blogs, nutritian advice, entertainment (yes lots of sweat, but lots of laughs too), friendships, strength, and confidence are what you will get when you join Norcal SC.
What is your biggest accomplishment to date here? Biggest accomplishment….. I have said it before, and its still true, each day at Norcal SC brings new accomplishments that I walk out the doors at the end of the workout wanting to shout “YEAH! THATS RIGHT I DID THAT!” I feel like I have accomplished so much, from just walking in the doors on day one to box jumps, to push ups, to sprinting the 200m run that I couldn’t even jog without walking in the beginning. Like I said each day by design gave me big accomplishments to be proud of….some days it was just showing up, making time not excuses.
